The blahs...

I forget each year that the end of the winter is as blah and colorless as the beginning of the season. The snow has melted and even the piles of crusty, dirty snow no longer hug the curbs. Everything exposed is dull and needing more of the cleansing rains we've been experiencing the last few days. The buds grow plump on branches, but no leaves are yet ready to burst forth and color the world in the particularly glorious acid green that announces Spring like no other colour. Crocus and hyacinth are still timid, keeping their colors and fancy fragrance hidden and I look around for the yellow shout of forsythia, but it's too soon. The birds are still foraging in the shrubs and taking quick, darting dives at the remaining rowan berries while the chipmunks, who I haven't spied all winter, are racing about the yard in their zany game of tag that leaves even the cats exhausted.

All signs point to Spring...

A woman recently commented that she had talons. They permit her to get a grip on life.

You have a gift, maybe one day we could compare notes.

Peace,

I agree. It's funny it seems as soon as it really sets in that winter can be as boring as a colorless pallet, spring begins.

I love the picture.

I love Liara's comment, she always hits me by surprise.

Maybe you'll get a St. Pat's day storm to cover up the mud for a while.

Then those crocii, forsythia, paperwhites et al.

prettli (I kid you not on today's word.)

Liara, I must be barely hanging on - I only have a singular talon :)

Neo, hello and welcome. I'll look forward to that!

Mia, here's hoping for an early and vibrant Spring - we've earned it!

Jannie, last year we got about 14" of the white stuff for St. Patrick's Day...this year I'm hoping we can by-pass it!

Prettli - a cactus in bloom!
