Pure

in the first few moments
when eyes reluctantly
open and squint in protest
as they register the impertinent
slice of sunshine pushing
through the not-quite-shut drapes
a cardinal's pure notes float
on the morning air

What a perfectly captured and told moment.

I keep the blinds shut 24 /7 in my sleeping sanctuary. But I had curtains once, ivory handmade lace ones from the 1940s, and when the breeze was out of the Northwest they'd flutter just so it reminded me of babys' eye lashes during happy dreams.

As you imply, every thought, feeling, sensation and energy particle registered in your radar is more pertinent than you give the senses credit for. What you have not yet registered will come into view at the right moment. When you are ready, the veil is lifted.

Very beautiful, loving, gentle. Perfect photo to go with it.

The same could be said for newborns.

Jannie, thank you. Purely ficticious as, while I do have drapes in the bedroom, I have blinds behind the sheers to keep that impertinent sunshine from waking me. One of the large windows faces east (and the bed) and with no leaves on the trees as yet, the sun sneaks in early. The first bird I always hear is the blue jay. Not quite as harsh as the crow, but darn close. However, every afternoon the cardinals seem to take centre stage and I love their song. I used to love watching my children sleep when they were infants...thanks for the reminder of that beauty.

Liara, thank you. Absorbing life through all the senses really adds dimension.

Mia, thank you. I wanted to post a pic of a cardinal. But they are shy birds and seem to take flight the moment I've got them in view of the lens. I almost posted a part-pic, but I didn't...so I settled for some clipart. I never thought of the newborn aspect, but of course it could be any age waking up to the brightness with that reluctance we have sometimes to giving up the sleeping state for the waking one...

I too, so disspise the moment something forces me awake out of the complete comfort of snooze-land. Mischief did it to me just today.
That certainly beats the neighbors tho.
Nice sheet-music bend on the 3 flats-

This is just gorgeous. Unfortunately, I'm the type that would consider strangling the bird, but still . . .

Snaggle Tooth, snooze-land seems even more sweet when it's interrupted...isn't that strange?

Mama Zen, thank you. There are times when I've dreamt of my childhood slingshot - lol...oops...did I just say that out loud? I'm scared the birds are gonna really pay me back now!

Thank you, Brigit.

Jannie - a "pome" by any name would still be as sweet written by you.
