The periwinkle is beginning to bloom. I love this resilient ground cover.
I felt bad when I saw this piece of broken robin's egg under the old pine tree in the back garden. I felt even worse when Stripey (who always follows me about like a little dog) stepped on it and crushed it. The shell so delicate both in colour and structure...
The sky blue forget-me-nots are beginning to bloom. There's something child-like in the shape of their petals that tickles me.

I loved the title of this old volume - "A Book of Good Essays" (1944). I'm thinking the companion collection, "A Book of Not-So-Great Essays" wasn't very popular. Is that not the most self-deprecating title ever? When I was in one of my favorite used book stores in St. Jacob's I couldn't help buying it. It's full of gems, too. I'm really enjoying an essay by Charles S. Brooks, "On the Difference Between Wit and Humour". This little passage, "Wit is a lean creature with sharp, inquiring nose, whereas humour has a kindly eye and comfortable girth. Wit, if it be necessary, uses malice to score a point - like a cat, it is quick to jump - but humour keeps the peace in an easy chair." is wonderful. When was the last time you heard the word girth? I'm planning on reading "Some Advice to Writers" by Robert Little next. I anticipate many more gems in this slim volume.
Under the big trees, the hostas are beginning to push up their slim columns.

The lilacs are just beginning to form their pretty purple blooms. I can't wait to drink in their fragrance...

Oh, nothing's as blue as robin's egg blue. (You recall Joan Baez singing about someone's eyes that were bluer than that blue?)
Of course you so! You are special. You are strong. You know the words to (almost) very song.
Dylan's eyes, I suspect. Do you?
Ooo, hostas!
And lilac buds. None of those here in Texas, boo hoo.
:)
Oh forgot to mention. Joni Mitchell had put out two albums close together a few years back. One was "Hits" and the other "Misses." You recall?
Wel, I'm off to catch the eastern Glow.
Thank you for the peaceful images. I can just smell those apples.
Love those photos. I wish it was spring here. And I love the comment on humour and wit. I hope you post more of those gems.
You're up with the crows, Jannie!Bask in the glow, girl! When I think of Joni Mitchell I always think of "Both Sides Now"..."it's life's illusions I recall...I really don't know life at all..."
You're welcome, Lynn. I'm loving these Royal Gala apples lately, after always having a love for the good old MacIntosh.
Thank you, Brigit. I'll definitely post more gems as I read through the essays. Don't worry - I'll be knee deep in snow when you'll be posting gorgeous summer pics.
I love the angle on that shot of the hostas!
Beautiful emerging photographs capturing Spring.
Mama Zen, I thought it would exaggerate the way they grow. Turned out better than I thought it would - lol!
Thank you, Joanne. I love watching the seasons unfold and trying to capture a little bit of it with my photos.
I've got periwinkles on the small side yard, but have had no luck with good close-ups. I think forget-me-nots are nifty too. you're pics of them are good. This years are still seedlings. Got lilacs out there too. Looks like you have a vast garden-scape to explore there. If I had control over the grounds, I would too.
Wish I had your cam- My little purple Lillies of the valley are starting to bloom.
That quote is wonderful, n makes quite unexpected distinctions. I'd never thought of wit as being with malice. Happy digging for gold in there, n for sharing that.
