I'm not sure how long this little guy (could be a little gal) was perched on one of the ropes we set up to cordon off an area of the back garden that we're overseeding. Charlie spied him/her before I did. Luckily I managed to distract Charlie ("Do you want a biscuit, Charlie?" has never yet failed and if it ever does I'll know something is seriously wrong with her) and get my camera (which is never too far away). After his photo op, the chipmunk jumped down and skedaddled across the grass lickety-split to disappear from view into one of his many tunnel entrances in the lawn. I think it will be a while before he dares the green carpet again.

But he did a great job as a little acrobat!
i love the pics you post...you have a great eye with the perfect pics...this is my favorite nature at its best site..thanks for the smile...Zman sends
I love the word skedaddle - haven't seen or heard it in a while. My dad's only living brother, Uncle Ken used to say it all the time. Skedaddle this. Skedaddle that.
Anyway, did he (or she,) manage to get a munch of seeds to your knowledge?
Love the pictures. And I too love the word skedaddle. I just read The Glass Castle and that word is used in there quite a bit, and it is pretty funny how they use it in a tragic sort-of way.
Anyway, great pics!
Lynn, I'm amazed by their agility. They almost rival squirrels in their acrobatic ability. I'm just glad Charlie didn't get there first!
Thank you, Steve. What a wonderful compliment!
Jannie, that's so funny because my Uncle Bill (RIP) would always tell us kids to "skedaddle" whenever the families were together and the cousins were getting a little too thick and noisy for him. When I see the chipmunk bouncing across the lawn, skedaddle always comes to mind. Between the chipmunks, squirrels and about 10,000 assorted variety of birds I'm amazed we've got any little grass seedlings at all! It does explain the erratic bare patches we keep having to re-seed - lol!
Thank you, Molly. Now that sounds like an interesting book. I'm trying to imagine tragic skedaddling now...
I love this picture! How cute!
Fun Photo!
Mama Zen, I love the chipmunks running amok. They always make me smile.
Thanks, Mark.
That pic is so cute! He looks so intelligent in that shot- I wonder of his name is Alvin... Amazing you got that pic, too. Good job!
Chipmonks! We don't have chipmonks. How gorgeous. The closest thing we have are possums, and they are nocturnal tree dwellers. How big are chipmonks? Absolutely love your feature photo.
Snaggle, I was completely lucky he stuck up there on his tightrope long enough for me to get a shot. He does have a bright gaze, doesn't he?
Brigit, they are about 7-8" long - nose tip to tail. When they run about, they always have their tails stuck straight up in the air. There's something comical and adorable about them. We have possums here, too. Unfortunately the only ones I've ever seen are the road kill...poor things!
This is my first visit to your site and I loved this picture (also Charlie looks EXACTLY like my daughter's dog).
I wish I had chipmunks where I live...he's so cute! I have a squirrel named Joe. I love to watch him because he's so acrobatic. He's managed to get food out of my "guaranteed squirrel proof" bird feeder. I figure if he can figure this out, I'll keep him in food!
Enjoyed your post and your site:~)
Welcome, Sara. Is your daughter's dog as zany as Charlie? lol!
Squirrels are a hoot to watch. We have lots of red, grey and black squirrels around here that provide great entertainment. You're right, Joe deserves to be kept in food!
Love the photo, as usual. I wish I could balance like that.
My rule of thumb...someone is *always* watching.
lol, Mia. Remember those lyrics, "I always feel like somebody's watching me..."? I'm constantly in awe of the acrobatics taking place in our garden by the sqirrels and the chipmunks. They make it all look so easy!
