Fledgling's first flight...

Returning from shopping today, as we got out of the car, we were greeted by a baby Blue Jay at eye level in the hedge next to the cedar tree that houses his nest.

Under the watchful eye of Mom and Dad, he had his first practice flights today...(needless to say we kept the cats indoors)

Great close ups! Hope he made it to safety alright. There's alot of cats wandering around here which would really ruin his day-

You've captured his innocence beautifully. Aren't you going to have to watch the kitty cats.

Beauty break. Exactly. Love the shots of dad and fledgling baby.

I hear everyone on the Beauty Break of Talon's blog.

Was the Papa pic taken last fall? Just call me Jannie-Sherlock, with my ever inquiring mind. Or Jannie-Columbo. Were you ever a Colmumbo fan?

Colmumbo! And boy can he dance.

Thanks, Mama Zen. I'm still trying - after months and months - to capture the cardinals. They seem to zoom around so quickly. Of course, these Blue Jays were pretty close and being extremely protective of their baby.

zman, thank you!

Snaggle Tooth, I kept our cats inside (and have for a few days) but there are so many cats in the neighborhood...but as far as we know, he's safe.

Brigit, thank you.

Lynn, thank you so much.

Jannie, all the pics were taken at the same time. The Mama was in the Japanese Maple which has that tinge of gold...but also goes the most vibrant amazing pure red in the fall.
Dad was nearby in a tree that is actually more of a sucker and I'm not sure what kind it is.
Colmumbo! LOL! I used to love watching Peter Falk bumbling about in his trench coat and solving the crimes. It would have been priceless if he started dancing!

Ah, a Japanese Maple. How beautiful!

You see such wonderous beauty and are able to capture it wonderfully to share with silly folk like myself too busy going through my day to pause and find these priceless treasures for myself. Thanks for reminding me and sharing your beautiful photos.

Thanks, Joanne. I don't think you're silly at all. We all have work to do and quite often the work keeps our focus tight. You know me - always looking for the magic in the mundane.
