The Himilayan Dandelion lays about looking quite disgruntled during the day. But when the sun is going down, just before dark, it raises its head and shows a radiant face. Thus the nickname "Moonflower". Once the sun hits it in the morning, it closes. Even nature has a night shift. Pretty neat!

It's funny that you've posted this. I've noticed that these little daisies (okay, I really don't know *what* they are, but I'm thinking some sort of daisy) closes when it's rainy and cooler and night. If it's bright and sunny, it opens....
The Moonflower is beautiful and such a mysterious sounding title!
Mia, those purple African daisies (the double header) are like that - they only smile when the sun is out. I'm a daisy lover and I sort of see why some varities are like that, because I feel so much happier and brighter when the sun shines too.
Thanks, Lynn. I hadn't seen this variety before. There is another vine with a flower that opens at night and is probably more aptly named as it's a luminous white colour but it's a tropical plant and wouldn't survive here.
That is so neat. You are such an amazing gardener, Talon, and an inspiration for all us wannabes. Actually I'm kind of a lapsed gardener, not guite a used-to-be. Maybe more of a between gardening stage now.
"I'm being followed by a moonflower, moonflower, moon flower..."
Very nice.
I can picture myself sitting out on my deck, having a miserable day, when I happen to look out across the backyard (or to the mountain) and see this particular flower in full bloom.
My miserable mood slowly dissipates as I catch the scent of this wonderful flower wafting in the breeze.
Thanks, G. If I had a deck with a mountain view, I don't think I'd HAVE a miserable day ;)
Nature is my "go to" for serenity, inspiration, and solace.
Honestly, Jannie, I don't do much. Plant the right stuff and nature sort of directs the orchestra. Of course, I DO sing to the flowers - do you think that helps?
Wow, that's awesome0 a night bloomer, like me! Cool looking too- I wonder if it's edible like other dandelions?
Of course they love personal concerts, it's a scientifically proven fact from the '70's...
Snaggle, I'll have to ask my friend about the edible factor.I do remember an experiment involving plants and music...though my solos might not be quite the music they need - lol!
