Driving down our street today, I had to stop and wait for the very slow crossing of a Mallard duck. He took his time, waddling slowly, and wasn't at all perturbed. I'm pretty certain this is the same duck I posted about last May - "if it looks like a duck..." True to form, he remains a duck out of water. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me as it was a quick errand.
I was reminded again of how much like children dogs are.
"Charlie always does this crazy thing," I was telling a friend. "Since she was a puppy. At least once or twice a day she digs furiously at carpet or tile floor and when you tell her to stop, she drops down, rolls around like an idiot rubbing her muzzle and making strange grunting noises."
Charlie didn't do it during any of the four hours my friend was visiting. Charlie did it two minutes after my friend left. Of course. And she was proud that she waited, too. Can't you tell by her expression?

Your description of the duck waddling across the road was perfect and just as good as a photo! I used to work at an office park with a pond in the middle and at times the ducks would decide to cross the road. I was always so proud of everyone on both sides of the road for their patience in letting them cross at their own pace. Most everyone was wearing huge smiles.
Dogs - gotta love 'em.
I don't know how many times I've left the cordless phone in the backyard!
The thing that makes me laugh about the duck is, there's no real bodies of water close by...so maybe he's just nosy. And it does make you smile to see a duck crossing the road. They don't get flustered like squirrels or freak out like pigeons - lol!
Mama Zen, that was first time and of course it had to rain!
Interesting observations of your joyful life, thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Mark. What a nice way to think of my life...
Nice pics.
Hey, I just wanted to pass on a little something, that I'm not sure if you're aware of it.
I'm currently following you right now, but it seems that your feed (at least doing it that way) isn't updating properly. It's showing updates that are about a month old.
Glad you got your cordless phone dried out! We bought a set of 4 for extensions all around the house, so far none in the rain thank goodness.
And Charlie is a doll. She was such a good girl waiting all those hours to wreak carpet havoc.
And G's gravatar always makes me chuckle.
Thanks, G. I looked into the whole feed thing...not sure what was up so I redid the whole thing. Thanks for the heads up and for being a follower (I can't believe I have one!) and I hope it's updating properly now.
Jannie, who can't smile at a melon-hat cat? We have two phones, but the other one wasn't plugged in due to home renovations going on in the dining room. I sort of liked the peace and quiet...but I hated having to catch up with the messages of the missed calls - lol!
Yes it is.
And many thanks for becoming a follower of me.
Oh and, my family is notorious for leaving the cordless outside, on the deck, on the car, on the ground, etc. etc. etc.
G,thanks and you're welcome!
My remote ket me dry it once too- whew!
Just Ducky! They are so lucky too- n water fowl are great for your Feng Shui power...
I believe Charlie was "scenting" her territory from instinct impulse. There's special oil-scent glands in the paw pads of cats n dogs, n on the sides of the cheeks, Unique, individual scents by which other animals will identify them.
If a cat paws/claws a place, it's markerd as theirs, n unless challenged, other cats will not claw the same thing. Bears do it to tress, too-
not another one! LET
