Tugging
Tail rippling in the breeze
the kite dipped down as if to tease
Swooping low, then climbing high
brushing against the bright blue sky
Kites of many colors and styles
People milling about, sharing smiles
but the little girl with the smallest kite
was the one experiencing pure delight

Ah, that's appropriate, because my younger daughter was outside trying to fly her kite yesterday. She didn't have much success for she was enjoying it!
just replace "for" with "but" :D
Since I read the title, the song from Mary Poppins is going thru my head, from way back in my childhood memories. Great poem with the images- cute little girl! I used to fly kites at the park growing up. I remember the rippling sound too.
My brother and I would find pieces of wood small enough to make a kite and cut newspaper to glue on the wood and tie string and a tail out of rags and run like the wind (so we thought) to get the kite in the air. Thanks for jostling my memory banks for the fun days with kites.
I used to find kites so fascinating...
I'd forgotten, thank you.
I have been high as one but never was actually able to get one fly. Does that count for anything? Great little poem that speaks volumes to content over quality.
aww...flying a kite is cool...there are some really neat ones in the vid as well!
you've said girl...happy children in the sunny, there is very few things more precious
That's so cool! I have never flown a kite - the little girl makes it look so fun. Love the film and poem, too.
How wonderful!
Love it!
Brought back some precious memories when my son would fly a kite.
Thanks, Talon!
Margie :)
It's been so many years since I flew a kite, and, of course, I'm no good at it. She certainly does look like she's enjoying herself. Your poem certainly does bring out that youthful enthusiasm.
too sweet! what a pretty little girl!
that video was great! loved loved love the big octopus kite though!
Check out the joy on her face - I want some of that fun!
I love the kite festival at LongBeach WA - from the expensive to the freely homemade...and the spinnaker sails on all the sailboats in the bay..
nice landing here today Thank you
Awwww....
Talon, I really found your Video to be very soothing and entertaining. But your expert choice of words in it's brevity made me smile.
You are the Mistress of Content!!
Go fly a kite!
This is so sweet!
Sadly, I can't fly a kite to save my fly.
I think it's the idea of the kite we fly--of leaving the ground, of going where the wind goes--so it would seem from these pictures of a flyig girl, anyway. And the video was lovely, as well, Talon. Thanks for sharing.
that smile could not be more radiant!
We can see it in her face,
and... the verse so fits!
As always K... _m
Oh wow Talon.. this post is delightful. The little girl and her kite.. the wonderful movie..and poem. I want to go fly a kite!
I really was amused by the photo of the giant hairball. What breed is this. He was bred for cold climes or to keep dog groomers in business,
Is he a sheep dog or a sheep?
On the run like a mad man in a whirl wind.
The young do have more fun.
Joey, when we were at the festival it brought back memories of attempting kite flying with my brothers and sisters (and much squabbling about who was in charge - lol). I think there is as much fun in the attempt as in the success. Glad your daughter had fun! :)
Snaggle, thanks! That was the song in my head when I posted it. That rippling sound is so neat, isn't it? Those large kites really snap!
TechnoBabe, we used to do the same thing. Invariably the real kite would crash and burn and we'd do our best to re-create it. Glad you enjoyed the trip down memory lane :)
Deb, thank you! Glad you enjoyed! Hope all is well.
Walking Man, thank you. I'd forgotten that expression - "high as a kite". Considering how hard it can be to get kites up, it's a miracle anyone gets that high! ;)
Thanks, Brian! :)
Lorraine, watching them enjoy themselves is like a gift. Thank you!
Lynn, thank you! :)
Margie, you're very welcome. Thank you! :)
Teresa, it's a lot hard than it looks, isn't it? Conditions have to be perfect. I know I ran many miles a kid trying to get the kite up. :)
Thanks, lg. That kite was enormous and huge! And I love how it rippled across the sky like a real octopus. The circular snake kite was really cool, too.
Patricia, that must be something to see - the kites out over the water. Thank you.
Thank you, Galen. Glad you enjoyed :)
Mama Zen, thank you. Kite flying is hard and tiring - that's my memory of it. :)
hedgewitch, yes, freedom on the end of a string. Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed.
Laura, she was so cute! :)
Thank you, D. I loved her concentration. Kids are so in the moment - I love that about them.
Joan, I'm glad you enjoyed and thank you!
Henry, that is Charlie. She's our labradoodle. She actually has a really fine-haired coat. We call her our Wackadoo - but she's a pure delight.
Ellis, their lives do seem to be so much less complicated, don't they?
very true and very beautiful. :)
blessed is a child's heart.
