Woebegone

You write of unrequited love—

...as if an elusive balloon
drifting beyond outstretched fingertips
you, the woebegone child, left sobbing and alone

...as if a badge of honour
pinned to a hollow chest in recognition
of someone who went into a battle bravely, yet still lost the war

...as if the remains of a daisy
petal-spent by the plucking of ‘loves me, loves me not’

...as if a stolen journal
recovered with fragmented ink-stained pages

—you never write of the love you have

sad...the image of the petal spent daisy...and never writing about the love you have...

Be thankful for small mercies, eh? I like your reminder. :)

Humans are so often incapable of appreciating what we have. I've removed the phrase "when it happens..." because waiting for something to happen is counterproductive... except waiting for ice cream to freeze. That's just smart use of time and blackberries.

Nice Riley header! He always looks so intelligent.
We've had crows here for bread every day now- not so many other birds.
I could be that person of whom you write, but usually do focus on the kids n Mischief. Delta Dawn again fills my mind radio-

Spmetimes I think I should burn the old journals before someone reads it!

it's a sad life to always want what you can never have, and a foolish mind that prizes it. I love your last line, and of course, the photos are perfect.

Perfect, poignant and beautiful as always. How I have missed your words.

Riley is such a handsome boy isn't he? Is Charlie next?

No analysis. I just love it:)

Excellent comparison for not quite taking that one last step forward.

Gotta know in order to be able to show it. Good reminder for the deaf there Talon.

So true to life--we often focus on the things we feel we are missing as opposed to noticing all the wonderful things we do have.

sorrow and poetry seem to go hand and hand but I loveyour version, why not loving, sharing, beautiful poetry...oh and that photo of your beautiful, exquisite dog, just charmed me

Talon...
There are WAY too many purveyors of unrequited love on this planet!
Thats why you are such a breath of fresh air.
I always feel warm and relaxed after visiting you.
Thank You for keeping our perspective straight.

hugs for the poet!

What feeling in this poem!

Strange, you can get away with saying something in a poem that you can't tell someone face to face. This sounds like a mom talking.

The images/symbols you use are very impressive. You express so much with a few words. Wonderful (as always---)

A life consumed
by hollow suffering
For me I beg you
let your tears flow
Weep to my sorrow
of which I cry
Any happiness I have
I'll never show

I'll try and do better LOL
me happy me happy

I especially loved your last line,
-you never write of the love you have

Loved it all Talon!

Going to hug my hubby now!

Most of us are like that, seems like - we think about what we don't have, rather than what we do. Lovely poem.

This speaks to me. Nice monotone header of your lovely large dog! What is this dog's name (again?)

Oooo, Talon, this is just something else above and beyond. What a poem!

I do wish more people would appreciate the love they DO have, me included sometimes. :)

Thank you for continuing to grace blogland with your beautiful heart!

Wow, Talon. This is amazing. I never saw where it was going until the very end. Well done!

How true! - I wonder which among us could say we've never done that. The images you present are perfect, striking - the elusive balloon, the petal-spent daisy...

Melancholy and very heartbreaking..not writing of the love eating him inside. I would be climbing walls Talon and its truly a beautiful piece my dear friend. Kisses and missed you :)

Love and hugs,

Wild Rose

So true of so many of us...particularly poets. Why do we (I mean, I rarely do, but the collective we) romanticise lost love so much?

Count Sneaky said...

Great shot of the dog. I wonder if he could would he write of his love? Or is he thinking of food?

It is sad, isn't it, Brian?

Jinksy, thank you!

Pheromone Girl, you're soooo right about the ice cream :)

Snaggle, thanks. I like that you think he's intelligent, because Riley really is a thoughtful guy. Oh, the Delta Dawn song - that's perfectly appropriate for this poem, isn't it? lol @ the journal burning - I think I might have to have mine destroyed on my death or something!

hedgewitch, thank you. Yes, some people are always looking for that elusive whatever and missing out on what is solid and real right in front of their noses.

Gypsy, Charlie is next (she'd never forgive me if I didn't give her an equally thoughtful photo). And thank you. It's lovely to have you here in blogland again :)

Thank you, Annie :)

G, thank you!

Thank you so much, Walking Man. You're right - gotta know it to show it indeed!

Teresa, thank you so much.

Lorraine, thank you (and Riley thanks you). Yes, some poets are stuck in that sorrowful place and it always makes me feel sad for them.

Galen, that's a lovely compliment. I'm glad you enjoy your time spent here. :)

Leslie, hugs back to you! :)

Sandy, thank you. I never thought of the poem that way, but you're right - it could definitely be a Mom talking.

Frieda, thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked it :)

lol, Ellis! You show plenty of happiness (especially when you're the weekly champion!) ;)

ayala, thank you!

Margie, thank you so much! I bet hubby liked that :)

Thank you so much, Lynn!

lg, thank you. That is Riley. He looks so serious in black and white :)

Jannie, thank YOU! and I think we're all guilty of taking people in our lives for granted at times - I think that's inevitable. Thank you for being a ray of pure sunshine xxx

Thank you so much, Mama Zen. :)

Ruth, thank you so much. I'm glad you liked the imagery :)

Wild Rose, missed you! Lovely to see you back! Love and hugs to you! xx

Maxine, it's a mystery to me, but it sure seems to get a lot of attention, doesn't it?

Henry, thank you. I think Riley's love is divided between food and playing fetch (his favorite game). :)

Talon, what a lovely, gentle reminder to embrace what we have. Sometimes we take it for granted.

beautiful. truly beautiful. :)

well, how many of us do? most of us have romantic involvements, affairs, relationships but very few are blessed with true love (am yet to meet one)

in my country people marry as per parent's choice mostly then try to love that person.
