blue-black sentinels
stay behind
as the robins
fattened by orange berries of the Rowan
echoing the hues of ruffled belly feathers
take wing on southbound currents
Against flakes of white chill
eddying in a northwest wind
the idea of a sassy robin
hop-hop-hopping across grasses of green
seems only a fantastical dream

And we have months more of this before it's a dream no more.
smiles...winter is so late this year there is no telling when they will come back honestly...
That's so beautiful. I hope those crows stay up there. :) I think I saw that robin the other day.
Talon...
I just LOVE wishful thinking 55's
hehehehehe...
Your pics were outstanding
Your poem was a fine example of the beauty roiling about your head.
Another Gem from the depths of Talon.
Thanks for playing today, and have a Kick Ass Week-End
That last photo is esp breath taking.
Really nice piece! some great visuals- thanks.
That middle picture is really neat--and echoes your words or vice versa--love the last two lines--we need those green sassy dreams a lot this time of year.
Talon~ That bottom photo of the bird on the twig above the berries is fantastic!
Great words for beautiful pics.
El pájaro en la jaula,
No llora de placer,
Sino de rabia...
Mañana más, y espero tu visita para romper los ojos...
Un saludo,
Db
The last photo is breathtaking!
Wonderful. So soon it will be more than just a dream.
So beautiful, Talon!
Two of my favorite birds. Crows cunning because they know how to survive wherever, robins wise because they know when to leave.
Love the word-play in your 55.
Talon,
I often wonder how the photographers can capture those moments in time. They must have put in hours to get perfect stills.Great pics and great verse!

Hi Talon .. love the header photo .. and Gmans 55 poem .. describes so much .. rich rowaned robins ... love them and those crows biding their time .. cheers Hilary
Such a contrast in your stanzas between the colorless crow in winter n the bright robin. Aleady dreamingof spring, seems so far away- but your photos are great! Word visuals too. I miss the chirping. Still have a crow window-tossings visitor every day.
Enjoy that rare warmth!
Thanks for including the crow. It's rare we see any tribute to him. Love your 55.
Crows are really good at holding down tht fort.
I see robins here, only in passing, now. Yours look like they know how to get ready for flight.
Ahh yes but even with all the cold now come we know that though difficulty never leaves while there are yet Robins the spring and warmth will return.
The robins usually show up here in January. Why? I don't know since that is our coldest month.
Talon, another beautiful header.
And your 55 is wonderful as well as the pictures!
Always love my visits here!
Margie :)
Aa-aa-aa-pril, come she will.
And she will.
xxoo
Fabulous...the poem and the pics :-)

Alice Audrey, so true. The only up side is that maybe it makes us appreciate the warm weather all the more.
Brian, I hope it means they get to come back early :)
Lynn, I'm glad the robins are in your neighborhood :)
G, I'm the Queen of Wishful Thinking - lol! Hope your weekend is awesome!
Thank you, Sheila.
Thank you, izzy.
hedgewitch, don't we ever :) Thank you. Glad you liked the action shot.
lg, the Rowan tree is so close to the house, I can sit on the front porch and be as still and quiet as possible as they feast. I swear they are used to the camera now and the shutter doesn't startle them.
Anthony, thank you.
David, gracias! Yes, seeing the birds living life freely is always a joy to me, too. :)
ayala, thank you!
Mama Zen, thank you so much. :)
Leenie, mine, too. :) And thank you!
Hank, thank you so much. I'm lucky that the birds are kind enough to stick around when I'm out shooting. And I'm grateful for digital film as it takes so many shots to get a keeper :)
Hilary, thank you! I hope you and your mom are doing well :)
Snaggle, that's neat about the crow visitor. He knows where the good stuff is :) Yes, spring always seems so distant. Hopefully we'll have a shorter winter!
Annie, thank you. I think crows sometimes get a bad rap, but I love them :)
Sandy, the robins are all gone now. I always look forward to their return though sometimes they get stuck in the odd snowstorm here come April :)
Walking Man, it's something to hold on to in the dark and cold part of our year, isn't it?
Linda, that's interesting about your robins showing up in the coldest month.
Margie, always delightful to see you here :) I'm glad you enjoy it.
Jannie, true that :) xxx
Thanks, Carol. :)
Wow! That second picture is so clear, so amazing! And the header pic of the frozen river took my breath away.
What a wonderful post. Both the poem and the pictures are simply great...
Our kind of robin (the European one) stays here in the winter, too, it's always a pleasure to see one, they are beautiful animals.
Winter seems to come here, too, now - this weekend we got the first snow.
lovely and many robins and finches come here for winter and do not go so far south - Our neighbors holly trees and bushes are loaded
I do not know the name of the tree down the street with orange berries that they have stripped clean this year
We left our pumpkin in the garden - a whole has been made in the side (deer is my best guess) and the squirrels have pulled and taken away all the seeds inside...our best feeder yet
Your photographs are so much like today here.
Deliciosas imágenes las que nos vuelves a traer por tu espacio...
Paso a desearte buena semana...
Un saludo,
Db.
