Concavity

His days seem small
with a view out windows
to fields he wandered young
and tilled through his ages

He doesn’t speak much
some say he gave up speaking
others say he had no choice
but the truth lies between

Hollow, he says
in a rust-rasped voice
tapping the space where his heart is
but no one understands

Beautiful, multi-layered writing.

(Love the bird in the header.)

An amazingly beautiful Cardinal header today!
Ah a cornfield... Some winter days I feel like that too- Have even been known to give up speaking sometimes. I never want to be stuck inside the rest of my life like that. You describe that feeling perfectly!

This steals my heart. I love the words, "rust-rasped" voice. That's a great two word description!

The picture of the chilly cardinal is also so well done. I felt the cold as I looked at it.

The transition from the bright color of the bird and the black and white corn fields was also an excellent visual for the writing. Well done, as usual:~)

Just extraordinary.
At first reading, I felt sad, as if he was 'empty'; but now I feel as if he has experienced the beautiful gift of sharing his entire heart with someone, world, poured it all into life, and is allowing this to nourish him. In such a way he is physically hollow, yet more fulfilled than most. We tend to want to keep pieces of our heart...why?...we don't 'take it with us' so why not share it all?

Outstanding, as usual. A bit sad for me, as my mom has days like this.

Beautiful and poignant, and only those who know that hollow inside can understand.

That bird is a delight to see. What an amazing colour. :)

I love the poem too, even though it made me sad. Its strange because I've been thinking about how small my days are becoming.

Sad but this does hit home. I now live with my almost 80 year old father-in-law and his sadness at times, is palpable.

So jealous that you get such cardinal visitors. Impressed with the beauty of your photo.

The second photo works so well with your sparse but true poetry.

So sad~to give up communication truly is despair. The black and white enhances the mood of the poem.

oh dear Talon you're breaking my heart, I missed visiting you so much

Beautiful Cardinal photo. I do believe I would photoshop that branch that looks like it's resting on his head.
I must admit I have never felt hollow inside...full of crap... But, this is not a very poetic feeling compared with sad, is it? My best.

One of your best, I think. Really packs a whallop

No one understands. So sorrowful.

So very sad for him. Life as it was isn't anymore, and he has no words left...hollow inside where life lived.

Ah sometimes I just want to curl up and stay right here.

The red bird and bare grass field

It is lovely and so clear...

"rust-rasped" will hold me all night long
Thank you
