Horror’s power lies in striking when defenses are down. It
lurked a thousand nights, waiting for one when she was weak. She gasps for
breath, but receives no mercy. Recapture
of her territory is impossible; victory against so wily and clever an enemy
unachievable. Is there no way to defeat something born of the dark?

An intriguing post.... Is this part of a bigger picture or story? Nice 55 ~
GRACE!!!!!!!
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....
(regains his composure)
Talon Dearest...
Those Nightly horrors kind of makes you want to have a Timmies Eh?
Loved your Nightmarish 55 My Friend
Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End
bring it to the light...that is the only thing to overcome the dark...smiles. nice write talon...
Chilling horror story. I love the spooky picture.
What Brian said...reminds me of many of the dreams I have had throughout my life (theme: Good vs. Evil...sometimes Good triumphs, at other times she's defeated)
Hmm, are you in need of some warm milk hon? Keep the journal beside your bed to get those nasty critters out of your head when they try to pop in. Write them out fast!
Or take the "restship" (my captcha word)
Just have to outlast it and wait till morning, I guess--unless of course, it has fangs and stuff.Then--silver bullets, I've heard, can be very effective. Love that header shot.
sounds like my issue with sleep apnea and the feeling of suffocating, i hate going to sleep
This is deep and sinister. Love it!
By the pricking of my thumbs...
Litigate!
Flame on!
Yeah like at 2:30-3am... Yikes.
and always lurking...Just try and know it for what it is! True and TRUE. Thanks.
Been there. Lovely lovely photo of orange rapture through the trees!
You've captured horror quite well. Now to tame it.
Talon, I had the most horrible dream last night!
I can so relate!
This is an excellent 55.
Margie x
Endless chilling possibilities here. You have our attention now. Great 55.
Born of the dark. Spooky!
Acknowledge it and it loses it's power. And, as Brian says...light, turn on the light...
Love love love the header shot..
Last sentence is so "Poe-tic"... brilliant!
wow! that packs a punch...and is incredibly beautiful all at once!
Frightening!
Just try and relax when you know terror is waiting for you in sleep. Even if it takes a thousand nights to jump. Whew! Nice 55. Great photo.
I think we had the same dream last night!
Interesting. Definitely makes you want to know more...
Horror in the night can indeed recapture us- as a black panther stalking prey...
A Very original 55!
Have you read alot of Edgar Allen Poe recently?
Very dark and creepy Talon. Unlike you. ;)
wonderful
__Too captured by those 'values' that matter little, we feel we are safe in that dream; that, then,
is the complacency we must guard against.
__K, remarkably written. _m
Powerful words and very timely for me as I head off to one of the worst places in the world to be a woman. The photo, wow. the culture of fear in which we live is really something but I believe we need to acknowledge the dark in order to grasp the light.
It is many a night spent in our rural, wooded area when the power goes out.
It is also how one might imagine death.
It is chilling and thrilling.
A horror story in 55 words...that's impressive:~) I love my word verification; it's "nites." Seems appropriate for your post, doesn't it?
I also loved the picture of the dove and the snow/sleet/rain falling around her. I always think winter must hard on the birds who don't fly away to warmer climes.
My feeders are full of golden finches, right now...the refugees from snow!
Intrigues.
Maybe, a ray of light sneaking through the curtains.
That's really intriguing - I must confess that I'm a little scared right now :)
WOW! Those photos are AMAZING and blazing, Talon.
And I think -- yes -- darkness will always succumb, as G-Man points out but grace. And light, such as is in you.
xoxo
Good Grief! I guess it's time to turn the computer on and forget going back to sleep!
Nice! Maybe you're describing the skunk that is surely after one of my hens. I smelled him under the deck this morning.
Heaven, thank you. It was an extraction from a poem I wrote a few years ago.
lol, G! Yes, Timmies is good at chasing the spooky things away :)
Thanks, Brian. And that's good advice :)
Teresa, thanks!
Polly, so true - the balace does swing sometimes.
Katherine, lol @ the captcha word. Sometimes they're perfect, aren't they? This is strictly fiction. No bad dreams lately :)
hedgewitch, lol - I've got some garlic and some silver bullets handy! Thanks about the header shot :)
Christine, that must be so uncomfortable and terrifying. I'm sorry you have to deal with that.
Anthony, I thought you might like this one :)
J Cosmo, ouch! :)
Shay - lol!
G, thanks!
izzy, thank you!
lg, thank you! :)
Alice Audrey, that's for sure the tricky bit :)
Margie, I'm sorry you had one of those. They are so unsettling, aren't they? x
Linda, thank you!
Thanks, Lynn!
Joy, thank you so much!
Shymanga, thanks :)
Laura, thank you!
Sheila, thanks! :)
Leenie, thank you so much!
Sandy, I hope that's the end of the nightmares! :)
Raven, thank you.
Snaggle, lol - no Poe or I'd be having nightmares EVERY night :)
Joey, lol - that's sweet. Thank you! :)
wheatgerm, thanks!
D, thank you so much. :)
Belinda, I wish you a safe journey and I admire you immensely for what you are doing.
Annie, thank you. when we lived in the country it was truly impressive how dark a night is...how in the city we take all the lights for granted. I never thought of the death aspect, but you are right - it could relate to that as well.
Sara, lol @ the verification. I love when they are relevant. I'm glad the finches are in your garden. How neat if they were the exact same ones feasting on the old coneflower seedheads here in my garden getting ready for their southern flight :)
Anil, thank you. Yes, there is the hope of dawn, isn't there?
Frieda, sorry about that. Hope all is well!
Jannie, glad you liked the shots and, yes, there has to be light against that dark. You're so sweet! xox
Margaret, leave the nightlight on :)
JGH, oh no! I hope the skunk moves on and leaves the hens alone!
