Scrapbooking a life...

Freeze-framing pieces of perfection
embellished with filigreed flotsam
on sheets of unbleached linen
leaving no space for the bittersweet
...stains of broken hearts and limbs seep

Uh huh, and some people would have you believe that their entire life is a neat and perfect scrapbook!

Talon, HOW do you make a photograph of one dead leaf look so amazing?

Brian Miller said...

yep dont work that way...and you know it would seem sterile i think if it was...

Sometimes I think blogging is just like this too.

That's a wonderful picture... very well observed and composed.
And the poem is very well done, too, you know how to express a lot with just a few words.

I'll take the unedited version. please.

You put down in words exactly how I feel, but you made is sound so good.

Talon~ I love your header! Looks like you do have some snow! How many inches I wonder...:-)

filigreed flotsam--I hate that stuff. It's such an excuse. Beautiful, sharp poem, and as always, one of those pics that just makes one sigh.

__To my eyes' imagination, these are the same photograph -in the
'contrary' of time's form-, and they seem to be intended as such.

__Floating on the season's form.
__Needles afloat on the snow, a leaf on water... and each to their own season; a remarkable comparitive, K., definitely not jetsam, nor is the verse!

setting sail
awaits the snows thaw
this leaf

I've never tried scrapbooking, but I agree blogging is often like this. Of course, this might be the reason I like macro photography! Your picture is amazing!

Hi Talon .. you are so right .. life is like a scrapbook without all the ups and downs we experience.

Love both photos - brilliant .. cheers Hilary

Some scrap books make life seem so grand- we had albums of growing up- but my brother took alot of the pics out to give different folks- If only he had the patience to leave them intact for later generations so their grand kids could take a gander later on... My Dad had worked hard on those-

Magnificent reflection pic! Like the abstract bg quality-

Joey's right- some blogs are all happy n good with no bad... Must keep up appearances!

That is a beautiful and bittersweet description.

Perhaps this is why I do not scrapbook..the "perfect" moments nourish my being, but it is the imperfect moments that make me *me*. They are etched in my heart, but I wouldn't know how to capture those on film, I just live them.

MAGNIFICENT photos. I love how you share small things in such a big way.

And your words? Heavenely!

The photographs just always draw me in and provide the hook, which is totally unnecessary to get me to read the words...lovely

I am reminded of how we used scrap booking, pictures, and events to assist in helping our youngest understand relationships and to connect with others better...teach her to see and get outside of herself

Stunning. Just. Stunning.

"...stains of broken hearts and limbs seep"

this line is the one that touched me... i think the search for the sweet in the midst of the bitter is important... but to refuse to acknowledge pain is a mistake. and as you say, the stains of brokenness will seep through anyway.

haven't visited in a while... so glad i did.

Talon -- I love how take the simple and make it stunning. The picture of the now and the limbs of the trees. AH...put me out my misery...publish a book of your photos and writings. Please!!!

Shay, that was what was running through my mind when I wrote this. And thanks about the photo. I'm always amazed that such little things can look so neat when photographed.

Brian, I agree - it's the imperfections of life that add all the color :)

Joey, I guess we want to present ourselves a certain way. Wary of revealing too much to too many.

Frieda, thank you. It's funny how a leaf can gain importance floating down the river all on its own :)

Thank you, Sandy. Yes, the unedited version of a life is much more intriguing, isn't it? :)

ayala, thank you!

lg, thank you. We had about 4" and that melted away and today we got hit with 4" again and apparently that's supposed to melt away when the temps rise up again. It's been a rollercoaster of a winter so far. Crazy!

hedgewitch, thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Christine, thank you so much!

Margie, thank you! Have a beautiful weekend! xx

Thank you so much, D. Yes, the flip side of the same coin. How do you manage to put it so beautifully?

Teresa, I've never done scrapbooking either. I guess my blog is my version of it. And thanks about the photo. I love macro, too, but usually don't do it very well. I was pleased the way the light hit the water that day.

Thank you so much, Hilary.

J Cosmo, thank you.

Sam, thank you.

Snaggle, thank you. That's too bad about the photos being given away. I only have a handful of photos from my childhood and so they're extra precious. Between my siblings, we've scanned what we have so everyone can have some. Thank heavens for new technology.

Thank you, Lynn.

Joy, I agree. And I got to thinking about a scrapbook that captured everything and how painful that would be, too. I like to just remember things - time softens the pain and enhances the joy, I think.

Jannie, glad you liked it. And thank you! xxoo

Patricia, thank you. Glad you enjoy the photos. Yes, there's value in putting things down to review and remember for sure.

Carol, thank you! x

Linda, thanks. When I took the dogs out for a walk, I spied the little branch poking through the snow and ran back for the camera (praying it wouldn't be disturbed before I got back) :)

G, you're too sweet :)

Cloudia, thank you! (twice!) :)

Gracias, David. Hugs to you!

Shyamanga, lovely to see you and thank you. I wish you a fabulous 2012!

Sara, thank you. I'm glad you liked it. And I might have to make up a special book just for you :)
