On Halcyon Farm

Some thought it lonely on the farm, but we never did. Endless view across the fields—even the blank ones of winter—suited us fine. Winter was the season of repose. Few visited once the wind came from the north, but the ones who did were the sort who enjoyed the quietude. Just like us.

I could live here happily!!!
Have you read Lonesome Dove? I always remember the lady who lived in Nebraska, and she was talking about the constant wind blowing across the plains. She hated it. But I would LOVE it. I live in Oklahoma after all, and it is very windy here. As I mentioned in another blogs 55, I just finished reading The Secret Garden, and there is a lot of mention of Wuthering Winds off the moors. I think it sounds wonderful.

Beautiful! I love the peaceful feeling of a blanket of snow covering the fields.

First, I LOVE the photo and the poem speaks of two people who are very happy with each other's company and solitude. I enjoy solitude myself ... I actually need it or I get cranky.

It's so wonderful to have your photos and words back, TALON. This looks isolated and forbidding, but I am picturing the people inside, warm, and glad to be alive. As for me, the further from 'civilization' I can get, the happier I am.

And once again from your mind, to paper, to instant transportation.
Your fantastic literary gift is a treasure to behold. GOD it's great to see you again Talon.
Loved your mournful 55
Plus your photography is always Top Shelf. (Hockey reference)
I love a pic with NO power lines.
That makes it TIMELESS!
Have a Kick Ass Week-End Eh?

That is isolation, but often a good place to be. Nice one.

A few more years and it's not a raft of empty fields I will view in winter but abandoned houses. It is much the same when it comes to quiet.

We do need Quietude! and I see the why of no visitors- no wind break! I spent some time on that kind of land, it was
bone chilling! thanks.

I'm not sure how well I'd cope with being cocooned in a farm for too long but a short visit would be lovely.

I like this! Winter is a time of rest and repose. We don't need visitors but we could use a lot more snow!

Lovely repose here and in your words.Thank you so much for sharing.

We are busy doing winter tasks of painting the rooms in the main floor of our house and cleaning up files for income tax purposes. Not very quiet here - though I did spend a week in bed with a virus - resolving now...and I find sunshine out today and the daffodils coming up tall.
Repose?

I shall commit this to memory and quote it often in a dramatic voice to those who come to share our quietude.

Ah, an olde corn field in snow shot, lovely. I want to go in to that barn!

And what an amazing capture of the white bird in your header. What glories nature designs.

I never found it lonely on the farm, but I did pine for a place I'd heard of named gay Paree. :)

We got some nifty old farms out here and it's kind of neat to drive by them from time to time. The stories they could tell would surely boggle the imagination.
